How to run several AI coding agents in parallel
More agents should mean more done. Baton is a desktop app that runs a fleet of AI coding agents side by side, with one git worktree per task, so they stop colliding in a single checkout.
Why parallel agents get messy
Running a second or third agent by hand usually breaks down in the same three places:
- A terminal per agent: windows everywhere, and no idea who’s doing what.
- Agents collide in one checkout: agents sharing a working copy overwrite each other.
- Review lives elsewhere: diffs, CI, and PRs are scattered across tools.
One worktree and branch per task
Baton creates a clean branch and worktree for each task, so several agents can work on the same repo at once without stepping on each other. Experiments are one click away from being thrown away.
Each session also gets its own port range and project variables, so dev servers and scripts don’t fight over ports.
The workflow, step by step
Baton turns scattered terminal sessions into one track you can follow:
- Assign: describe a task, pick the agent, model, and reasoning effort, and hand it off. Start the next task right away.
- Organize: one worktree per task, grouped by project.
- Review: check diffs, changed files, commits, and CI checks in the app, and send issues back to the agent in one click.
- Merge: live branch and PR status, with auto-merge.
- Archive: stop, snapshot, and restore a session anytime.
Mix the agents you already use
Claude Code, Codex, Grok, Cursor, OpenCode, and Cline run in the same interface. You can also bring any model through your own key (BYOK) in Settings › Providers, or use Baton AI Cloud with no API key.
Terminal and AI tabs sit side by side, and background commands keep running after a turn ends.
FAQ
- Will several agents working on one repo conflict?
- No. Each task gets its own worktree and branch.
- Can I run Claude Code and Codex at the same time?
- Yes. Give each task its own agent and model. Claude Code, Codex, Grok, Cursor, OpenCode, and Cline are supported, plus any model through BYOK or Baton AI Cloud.
- Does it work with existing repos and PRs?
- Yes. Start a task from an existing project, issue, or PR.
- Which systems does Baton support?
- macOS on Apple silicon and Windows 10/11 x64. Intel Macs and Linux aren’t supported yet.
